Sculpture

I have worked with the medium of stone for over 20 years, mostly in the restoration of stone buildings in Ireland and previously in the UK. After returning to Ireland in 2019 I have focused a lot of my attention on my artistic practice. Concentrating on producing stone sculptures with the exciting aim of earning my living purely through this manner. Usually my sculptures and carvings are carried out in various hard limestones as well as many marbles. Theses could include a dark Kilkenny limestone, a lush Connemara green marble or a dependable Carrara marble from Italy.

My work is influenced not only by the inherent craftsmanship of stone-cutting; the sense of ritual and order this can evoke, but also by what I see around me in nature, in the wide array of flora and fauna that exists. Lately, I have been drawn towards sculpting portraits in stone which are a particular challenge to do as no two faces are the same. I always hope to create sculptures that are inviting to touch as much as they are beautiful in colour and in form.

My sculptures are usually made for exhibitions but I also take on private commissions and make larger work for public art pieces. Contact me if you have a idea you would like to discuss.
